On Tuesday, FC Barcelona officially announced the signing of João Cancelo, who is joining the club on loan from Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia.
In a statement released on their official website, Barcelona confirmed, “The club has reached an agreement with Al Hilal regarding the acquisition of the Portuguese player on loan until the end of the current season. Cancelo will don the number (2) jersey.”
The signing ceremony took place at the Barcelona offices, attended by club president Joan Laporta, first vice president Rafael Yuste, board member Joan Soler, and sporting director Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco”. The player’s family was also present for this significant occasion.
This move marks the return of João Cancelo to represent the Catalan giants once more, as he previously played for the team during the 2023/2024 season while on loan from Manchester City.
During his initial stint with Barcelona, the Portuguese star made a notable impact, participating in a total of 42 matches (including 32 in La Liga and 10 in the UEFA Champions League). He scored 4 goals (two in La Liga and two in the Champions League) and provided 5 assists (four in the league and one in the Champions League).
After concluding his loan on June 30, 2024, Cancelo transferred to Al Hilal, where he has since played 45 matches over a season and a half.
