The draw for the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey took place today, revealing favorable matchups for the two giants of Spanish football.
Conducted in Las Rozas, the draw paired Atletico Madrid against Deportivo La Coruna, a team that has previously claimed the title on two occasions and is currently engaged in a fierce battle to regain its place in the top division.
In this season’s tournament, Deportivo La Coruna managed to eliminate Real Mallorca, a club from the first division.
Matchups and Expectations
Barcelona is set to face Racing Santander, a team historically known for being a tough opponent for major clubs. Racing currently leads the second division and previously knocked out a strong team, Villarreal, in the Round of 32.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid will visit the Carlos Belmonte stadium to take on Albacete, which recently eliminated Celta Vigo from the tournament.
