Ronaldo Faces Suspension Threat After Al-Hilal Derby, Says Referee Expert

According to a refereeing expert, the Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Al-Nassr, may face disciplinary action following the Riyadh derby against their traditional rival, Al-Hilal.

In the match held on Monday at the Kingdom Arena, Al-Nassr suffered a defeat against Al-Hilal with a score of 1-3 during the fifteenth round of the Roshen League.

During the game, after Al-Hilal scored their third goal from a penalty kick—marking the second penalty awarded to the team in the match—Ronaldo made an ambiguous gesture towards the cameras while seated on the bench.

Referee consultant Abdullah Al-Qahtani commented on this incident during his statements to the program “Dourina Ghair,” stating, “In such cases, if the Disciplinary Committee perceives that this gesture has a negative connotation, they will address the club.”

He further elaborated, “The aim is to obtain the player’s explanation regarding the meaning of that gesture. Based on his response, the Disciplinary Committee will take appropriate action, particularly in instances that the match referee did not oversee, which come to light from the official broadcast.”

Al-Qahtani concluded, “Generally, actions are subject to accountability and interpretation based on what is understood within the country where the incident occurred, unless the player acknowledges an alternative interpretation.”
