In a significant development following their exit from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Algerian Football Federation has officially lodged a complaint with both FIFA and CAF, addressing contentious refereeing decisions during the match between the Desert Warriors and Nigeria.
This complaint centers around the officiating by Senegalese referee Issa Sy, who controversially chose not to award a penalty, a decision that has sparked considerable debate within the Algerian camp.
During the first half of the quarter-final clash, which took place last Saturday, Algerian player Farès Chaïbi delivered a cross that struck the arm of Nigerian defender Semih Ajayi inside the penalty area. The Algerian players vehemently appealed for a penalty; however, the referee opted to let the game continue without even reviewing the incident via video technology.
The match concluded with a 2-0 victory for Nigeria, which has now set up a highly anticipated semi-final encounter against Morocco.
