Courtois: We squandered an easy win… and Vinicius was a nightmare for Barcelona

Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper of Real Madrid, expressed his disappointment following the team’s defeat against Barcelona with a score of 3-2 in the final of the Spanish Super Cup. He firmly believed that the team had the potential to win the match without much difficulty.

In a press statement, Courtois noted that his team exhibited excessive caution in their approach against Barcelona, which ultimately contributed to their loss. He highlighted that they failed to capitalize on the outstanding performance of his Brazilian teammate, Vinicius Junior.

Courtois Reflects on Missed Opportunities

Courtois remarked, “We deserved to win in the second half; we could have easily won the match. Losing the final to our rivals is incredibly frustrating. We definitely feel sad, but we must return to training and prepare for the upcoming cup and league competitions, continuing our hard work.”

He further added, “We did not make the most of this version of Vinicius Junior today; he was a real nightmare for them.”

Continuing his praise, Courtois expressed confidence in Vinicius’s abilities, stating, “We know he is capable of deciding matches. He is a talented player who scored a brilliant goal, and we hope to take advantage of the positive aspects despite the loss.”

Courtois concluded, “We had opportunities, but the ball just didn’t want to go into the net; everything ended up in the hands of Juan Garcia, which sums up the match. We were not fortunate.”

Additionally, Courtois shared his sentiments on his Instagram account, writing, “We are very sad today, but we are confident that this team can bring us joy throughout the season. It’s time to rise again.”
