Manchester City has successfully outmaneuvered its Premier League rivals to secure a significant signing, acquiring the talented African player, Antoine Semenyo.
In an official announcement made today, Friday, the club revealed that the Ghanaian international has joined from Bournemouth on a contract lasting for five and a half years, set to expire in the summer of 2031.
According to the British newspaper, “Daily Mail”, the deal has cost City a staggering £65 million, allowing them to surpass interest from other top clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United, all of whom were keen to secure his services.
Semenyo, who is 26 years old, will don the number 42 shirt, a number previously worn by the legendary Ivorian player, Yaya Touré, who is celebrated as one of the greats at the Etihad Stadium.
In his first statement to his new club’s website, Semenyo expressed his immense pride at joining Manchester City, stating, “I feel a great sense of pride in joining Manchester City, a club I have followed for a decade under the management of Pep Guardiola, during which the team has dominated the Premier League and achieved numerous remarkable successes, including the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup.”
He further added, “It is a club filled with world-class players and also has one of the greatest managers of all time, making it an ideal destination for me.”
