In a recent match against Athletic Bilbao during the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup, held in Saudi Arabia, Barcelona coach Hans Flick provided insights regarding the absence of young talent Lamine Yamal from the starting lineup. Yamal came on as a substitute in the match, which concluded with a resounding score of 5-0 in favor of Barcelona. The tournament is exclusively broadcast through the “Thamanya” app, the sole broadcaster for the Roshan Saudi League.
Flick Discusses Yamal’s Condition and Team Dynamics
During a press conference, Flick explained that Yamal had been experiencing some discomfort in the days leading up to the match. “He underwent treatment the day before the game and improved significantly,” Flick stated. However, due to his lack of training over the past two days, the decision was made to place Yamal on the bench at the start of the match. Flick emphasized that this situation was not injury-related but rather a matter of gastrointestinal issues.
Additionally, Flick addressed inquiries regarding the speculation surrounding Robert Lewandowski potentially moving to the Saudi league next season. Responding to the rumors, Flick expressed his uncertainty, stating, “I don’t know… I am very honest with Lewandowski, and I am happy to have him with us. He is in good form, has trained well, and scored goals. Therefore, this is the situation; we have two players capable of playing in that position, and I am very pleased with this quality.”
When pressed further about Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona, Flick refrained from making definitive statements, indicating that there was still time to make decisions about the team’s composition. “I won’t say he will leave Barcelona. Why? Because we have time, and this is something I discussed with Robert as well. We will see what happens, and we will decide at the end of the season,” he concluded.
